Volunteers are the backbone of the Colwood Community Garden. Without our volunteers, the Community Garden will not exist. Being a Garden Volunteer means committing as little as only two or three hours per month.
As per the Garden Plot Regulations, ALL members of the Colwood Garden Society are expected to contribute to the upkeep of shared areas around the grounds as well as caring for your own gardens.
First, please keep the space surrounding your own garden free of tools and clutter. Return all borrowed tools to the shed when you have finished. For the sake of gardeners adjacent to you, do not allow any plants to spread or go to seed in a manner that adversely affects their beds.
Second, please attend work parties (usually scheduled for the third Saturday of each calendar month) whenever you can. You don’t have to be an expert with tools or horticulture make a difference the whole group will appreciate! You can hand around the bottled water and snacks or help with other light tasks anyone can manage.

The Living Edge team looks after boxes 17 & 18, planting, watering, amending soil, and harvesting the vegetables. From June to Sept, every Friday morning (about one hour), the team harvests whatever is ready to eat, packages it up and delivers it to the Open Gate Church at 2612 Sooke Road.
The Work Party Team looks after the overall repairs and maintenance projects within the Community Garden. These projects include ongoing garden box, gazebo and fence repair, biannual pruning, soil drop-off, pick up and delivery of supplies, and end of year garden cleanup. Work parties meet the 3rd Sat of each month, but other dates may be organized.
The Garden Maintenance Team is KEY to the sustainability of the Community Garden. Grass needs to be cut, weeds need to be pulled, herb gardens need to be weeded and watered, and the shed and Gazebo sites maintained. Volunteer time is flexible, about an hour a week.
The Communications Team is responsible for notifying garden users and the community of events and activities, via email, newsletter, garden bulletin board and the website. They may also do community outreach such as presentations, exhibits, social media and publicity. Volunteer time is flexible.
