Community Gardens

Capital City Allotment Association Gardens
A non-for-profit organization managing the community gardens located at 641 Kent Road in Saanich BC.  Members are local citizens who enjoy gardening and growing fresh vegetables.

Sunriver Community Garden
In the summer of 2009 the District of Sooke asked Sooke Food CHI to plan and develop a community garden which would be the community’s first community garden and allotment garden supported by local government.

Dave’s Garden is the hands-down favorite website of gardeners around the world. Our articles and videos show you how to start seeds and learn how to have your best garden ever. Members can chat with other gardeners in our forums, and identify your plants, pests, birds and butterflies.

Garden Web 
“The internet’s largest home and garden community”. An encyclopedia of gardening information, from forums, tools, to frequently asked questions by gardeners.

Farmer’s Almanac
The Farmers’ Almanac “is a compendium of knowledge on weather, gardening, cooking, remedies, managing your household, preserving the earth, and more.”  The website offers a separate Canadian version of the almanac as well as miscellaneous products for sale.

Floridata
Floridata offers an extensive online plant encyclopedia including pictures, cultivating and harvesting information.

UBC Botanical Garden Forums
Hosted by the University of British Columbia Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research, located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. 

An online forum for science-based plant, gardening and biodiversity enthusiasts from around the world. Focus is on UBC Botanical Garden’s local region, the Pacific Northwest of North America).

Victoria Horticultural Society
Established in 1921, a local not-for-profit organization for those interested in horticulture. The VHS holds monthly meetings with interesting speakers, access to our library, a Parlour Show to display the best from our members’ gardens and the Plant Stall which sells plants donated from members’ gardens. Special workshops and events are organized throughout the year.

An excellent resource for certified organic, locally grown and open pollinated seeds grown on ALM Farm on Vancouver Island. They have an excellent seed catalog.

Seeds of Victoria
Another source for organic and locally grown seeds.

Heritage Harvest Seed
A mail order service specializing in rare and endangered heirloom varieties of vegetables, flowers and herbs.  Located in Carman Manitoba.

Local Educational Centres

Compost Education Centre
The Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre is a non-profit organization, with charitable status located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, providing composting and organic gardening education to CRD residents.
