Summary of Garden Rules

as outlined in the Garden Plot Regulations. Also check out the Garden Etiquette document.

  1. Plots must show some activity by May 1. Lack of activity may result in the cancellation of the lease with the plot returning to the rental pool.
  2. Plots must be cleared of garden debris by November 1st.
    1. Temporary structures, such as hoop houses, cloches, bean poles and trellis arrangements, must be dismantled and securely stored.
    2. Actively growing winter crops or perennials may remain after Nov 1 but must be left in a tidy condition so that the general appearance is not offensive.
    3. Water will be turned off as of November 1st.
  3. Plots must be cleared of weeds, grasses, other invasive plants and plants that spread seeds quickly such as fennel, lemon balm, foxglove or any invasive species (see list). You are responsible for weeding your plot.
  4. Use organic gardening methods. The use of pesticides, herbicides, soil enhancements, or any other man-made chemicals are not allowed in the garden.
  5. Remove your garden waste and garbage. Dispose of all waste off site.
  6. Monitor your watering. No unattended, overnight watering or sprinklers.

Mandatory Volunteer Service – All members of the Garden Society are required to volunteer and to participate in tasks which pertain to keeping the overall garden site operational to acceptable standards.

This may be simply

  • watering the apple trees, herb garden or a garden plot listed on the community board
  • Pulling/trimming weeds around the garden boxes and pathways
  • helping out at one of the monthly work parties
  • dropping off garden waste at the Colwood yard
